Pulling and tugging
Max put his snout into the hole and pulled with his teeth. And then Jeff saw it—a flash of red sticking out from where Max was digging. The dog pulled and tugged, determined to free the hidden object. As more of the trunk broke away, the red item became clearer until, finally, Max managed to pull it loose. The object tumbled down, landing with a thud on the forest floor.
