The police quickly split into pairs, circling the cabin with their hands on their weapons, their eyes scanning for movement. Max stood still at the edge of the clearing, his ears perked and his gaze fixed on the cabin. Jeff could hear his own heartbeat as he stayed close to Officer Ramirez.
