Rope slipping
The creaking got worse. And within seconds the attachment-clip popped out of the mechanism, causing the lifeline of the fireman to slip rapidly. It was a dire moment, that could have gone catastrophically wrong. But one of the firemen was alert, and he jumped in just in time to grab the rope. He put his feet against the sidewalk and pulled as hard as he could.
