At the bottom
Together they managed to stop the rope from slipping. The fireman in the pit led out a sigh of relief. And using their combined force they gave the fireman safe passage downwards. Once the man was at the bottom they could finally let go of the rope for a minute and the fireman could nurture the burning sensation in his hands. But then Annie heard a heartbreaking sound.
