He felt the blade sink into the trunk of the tree and heard the sound of the wood splitting apart. He kept going, hacking away at the trunk until he had created a large enough notch to make the tree fall in the direction he wanted it too. The lumberjacks in these forrest had thought him well. Jonathans swings were controlled and consistent.
