Persisting Unease
Yet, despite his best efforts, the feeling persisted. He would often catch himself stopping in his tracks, listening intently for any unusual noise. At night, he found himself waking up with a start, his heart pounding, sure that he had heard something. He would sit in the dark, eyes wide open, listening for the sound to repeat itself. But all he could hear was the deafening silence.
