Short-lived joy
Book in hand, Douglas ventured outside, the orange hues of dawn adding a surreal glow to the landscape. He stepped onto the cool, dew-kissed grass, the smell of morning freshness all around him. His heart pounded with excitement. What would the day bring? He was ready to face whatever came his way. His joy was short-lived, however, as he spotted an uninvited guest near his encampment.
