His fingers grazed the soft fur of the lion’s mane, sending a jolt of exhilaration through him. The lion made no move to harm him, and instead, it seemed to enjoy the contact. Douglas, his fear momentarily forgotten, stood in awe of the beautiful creature that allowed him to stroke its mane. At that moment, Douglas felt a strange bond with the wild beast.
