Unseen observer
The boys held their breath, feeling as if the swamp itself was holding its breath with them. The sensation of being watched intensified, their hearts pounded against their chests like frantic drumbeats. Yet, they held their course, their determination unyielding. The moment had arrived. Whatever was hiding in the swamp was about to reveal itself. They were ready. Or at least, they thought they were.
