Right before his body was horizontal, the sound returned with a vengeance. A loud creak, followed by a heavy pound, as if something large had fallen on the hard wooden floor, was heard within their bedroom. Mike instantly rejoined his girlfriend and was now also wide awake. “What was that? ” he said while looking at Sarah with wide-open eyes. Sarah shrugged her shoulders.
