Tightly stitched to the back of the canvas was an old piece of parchment paper, folded neatly. Its edges had yellowed with age, and its contents remained invisible from this view. Diane realized that removing it would require utmost care to ensure the fragile paper didn’t tear, or the canvas would be damaged.
