In the months that followed, the boys grew to respect and even love the residents of the veterans home. Their stories would remain with the men for the rest of their lives. It gave them perspective for their own future, and it gave them respect for their elders. They were thankful for the opportunity. One that would never have presented itself if not for the weird request from an old local war veteran.
