The dog wouldn’t tell her, and she knew that Sadie was sneaky enough to find her way out without normal humans noticing. That’s why Kate needed a second set of eyes. Eyes that would always be vigilant. From reading Sadie’s files, Kate knew that the pup only escaped the homes during the night. Nobody knew how she did it, but everyone said that daytime was fine. So Kate used this time wisely.
