Before Ava could respond, her father followed up on his question. “Put it back!” he exclaimed, but his voice broke mid-sentence, and Ava noticed he was fighting his tears. Ava still didn’t know what was happening, but her previous worries were gone. “I want to know what is happening,” she demanded.
