Maddy saw her mother’s eyes flicker as she opened her mouth. “Well, I didn’t live there,” she said triumphantly, happy to finally prove to everyone that she wasn’t wrong or trying to hide anything about her past. “I grew up in St. Joseph’s,” she added. Her response left the homeless man speechless.
