Carl opened the book carefully, flipping through fragile pages filled with faded handwriting. It was the ship’s captain’s log. Though some words were illegible, he made out chilling references to a “freak natural event” and “severe casualties.” The vague entries offered no clear explanation, but one thing was certain—something catastrophic had happened here.
