The crew leader stood inside the strange object. It was about three feet deep, with an entrance and exit door. The others looked puzzled, but Carl, a bit older, recognized it. He’d seen construction like this before. It was a tunnel door—built to support heavy earth while workers passed safely through newly dug or unstable underground spaces.
