“Stop! We mean you no harm,” one of the men called out. Carl halted, finding the tone of this man’s voice far removed from a threat. He turned his face and saw that the man with the lantern remained standing at the end of the tunnel opening. He had no intention of following Carl and his crew and suddenly seemed harmless.
