“And the car?” Emma asked gently. “Why leave it in the forest like that?” Charles chuckled softly, shaking his head. “That car was my last tie to the life I had. Abandoning it was my way of saying goodbye, of severing the final link. I thought if I left it behind, I could move on. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t.
