The bridesmaids exchanged worried looks. “Are you okay?” another asked, her ear pressed to the door. “Do you need anything?” The voice on the other side was raspy and uncertain. “I’m fine. Just… please, give me some time.” The woman hesitated, but they didn’t want to pressure their friend on her special day. “She’s probably just feeling nervous,” one of them said as they backed away from the door.
