One of those containers carried the shoes that had washed up on the shores of Carla’s town, but there was something else—a waterproof briefcase with a satellite phone tucked inside. It had been Benjamin’s idea, a last-ditch effort to reach out to the world beyond the ocean. He hoped that someone would find the briefcase, find the phone, and get help.
