John picked himself up from his horizontal position, and as he did so, he saw the surface he was standing on. His fall had caused snow to disperse, making the bottom beneath it visible. This wasn’t a field; it was a frozen lake. Given this knowledge, John approached cautiously, making each step count. When he finally reached the moose, it stepped aside, letting John move forward.
