Edge of the lake
John’s boots sank into the snow as he neared the lake’s edge. John knew this because he saw vegetation about 30 feet away from him. But right there, where he stood, he also noticed something much more daunting. Between the area where the soil began, and the water stopped, there was a deep crevice of a small, icy ravine that went down far deeper than it looked from a distance.
