She glanced around nervously as she moved forward, her heart beating a little faster. The people on the street muttered to themselves or talked in hushed tones. Some even tried to call out to her, but Kate kept her eyes straight ahead, unwilling to make eye contact. Her footsteps echoed through these streets, reminding Kate how alone she was.
