A few months later, Bob took his first vacation, which was long overdue. For the first time in over four decades, he wasn’t waking up to the cold stone of the tunnel. No more sharp rocks poking his back. Instead, he basked in the sun of Hawaii, feeling warmth that wasn’t from the old coal oven but from a life filled with freedom and choices.
