When they reached the forest’s edge, the group was stunned. A section of the once-lush greenery was barren, the towering trees replaced by stumps and dirt. Julia’s breath hitched. “This doesn’t look right,” she muttered. The officer parked the truck and stepped out, his boots crunching on the dry ground. “Let’s take a closer look.”
