A Vague Description
The drought had sparked tensions, and people were bound to imagine things, the authorities reasoned. Yet, the callers were insistent, as well as consistent. Their voices all held a mixture of fear and certainty. They described a creature “the length of a truck,” gray and glistening in the sunlight, its scaled body moving across the dried silt.
