Shining light into the tunnel

They moved ahead slowly, flashlights raised and beams cutting through the dark. The tunnel was wide, around fifteen feet across, and tall enough for both men to walk upright without ducking. Its walls weren’t smooth—they were jagged and streaked with red soil mixed with strange black veins. “This doesn’t look natural,” Charles muttered, keeping his voice low. Tom nodded beside him. “No way. Someone or something definitely dug this out,” he said, eyes scanning ahead.
