In a side alcove off the main tunnel, they stumbled upon another strange sight—burnt wooden beams, buried halfway in dirt. Some were blackened by fire; others looked snapped or splintered. “What would lumber be doing down here?” Charles asked, confused. Tom crouched down and examined the remains. “Supports, maybe,” he said slowly. “But why here? This wasn’t just a natural cave. Someone built something in this place—either long ago or maybe not that long ago.”
