Vanishing trees again

They looked to the far side of the field, where thick smoke now poured into the sky. Trees that once lined the horizon wobbled, tilted, and then vanished into the earth like paper sticks. “Another collapse,” Tom said, stunned, barely able to process what he was seeing. The ground was giving way again. Dust and debris filled the air, rising high above the sinkhole and blotting out part of the morning sun.
