Charles and Tom packed quickly—gloves, jars, and a camera—ready to collect hard evidence from the tunnel. At the bottom of the sinkhole, the air was thick with sulfur and oil. They found the leaking pipe again, scooped samples of the black liquid into jars, and snapped photos of the red soil. Every mark and number they documented could help trace who was behind it. “This is a start,” Charles said. “But we’ll need more.”
