A Strange Shape

Drones were launched. The view from above made everyone step back. The hole wasn’t jagged like a natural collapse. It was a near-perfect circle, almost smooth. And it had layers—orange and red and brown rings like some giant cake. Geologists shook their heads. “That’s not how this should look,” one muttered. Carla crossed her arms, feeling suddenly cold. “Then what are we looking at?”
