Breathing, Slowly
He leaned in close and watched the body carefully. There — a small rise and fall. Barely noticeable. But it was breathing. Steady and slow. He exhaled, amazed. “You’re really alive,” he whispered. It didn’t respond, but Liam didn’t expect it to. Whatever this thing was, it didn’t feel dangerous. It felt exhausted. Or maybe just stuck. He kept clearing more mud.
