The vet looked up from his examination and asked Matthew where the puppies had come from. Matthew explained again, his voice tinged with irritation. The vet stared at him for a moment before delivering words that sent a chill down Matthew’s spine: “These are not dogs.” Matthew’s jaw dropped as he tried to process what he had just heard. What could the vet possibly mean?
