Maddy hesitated before opening the door, her heart pounding in her chest. Derek stood behind her, clutching the mysterious package tightly. When she finally turned the knob, she was greeted not by the men in suits, but by a delivery person holding a brownish envelope. “For Derek, I assume?” the courier asked, glancing between them. Maddy nodded mutely, her fingers trembling as she accepted the envelope. The tension in the air refused to lift.
