As they approached the outskirts of the city, Derek spotted headlights in the distance behind them. His stomach dropped. “Someone’s following us,” he said, his voice low but urgent. Maddy glanced in the rearview mirror, her heart pounding. “Are you sure?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Yes,” Derek replied, his gaze fixed on the lights. “They’ve been matching our speed for the last two turns.” Joshua twisted in his seat, confirming Derek’s suspicion with a nod.
