“It became too much to bear.” He sighed deeply, running a hand through his thinning hair. “One day, I just couldn’t do it anymore. I left the car where it was, locked the house, and drove out of town. I didn’t even tell anyone I was leaving. I drove for hours, maybe days. I didn’t have a destination. I just needed to get away from everything that reminded me of her.”
