The tall man sat in his dimly lit office, reviewing the day’s events. Jack’s intrusion had complicated matters. He wasn’t supposed to reveal anything, but Jack’s persistence had shaken him. Picking up a folder marked “Brown, Alice,” he stared at her photo. He couldn’t help but admire her courage, even if it made things messy. “Why couldn’t you just stay out of it, Jack?” he muttered, closing the file.
