The machine they leaned against roared to life, and both men felt the cold metal heat up. However, this process did not build up slowly. Within seconds, the metal radiated an intense warmth, instantly scalding anyone foolish enough to touch it. Mike stood close by but was spared the immediate burn. But since Brody placed his cheek and ear against the machine, he was scalded instantly.
