If it’s time to upgrade your child’s room from a baby nursery into a toddler/child’s room, there are a couple of things that you need to consider.
It isn’t too tough of a project and, in fact, it can be something really fun for everyone involved if you make the most of it.
If you are at this stage in life right now and are looking for some advice, you’ve landed in the right place today.
Let me dive right into telling you what you need to start off with to upgrade your nursery into a child’s room, I promise it’s not as difficult as you might be expecting.
A new bed
First things first, you will need a new bed. The time of the cot is over and the time of the child’s bed has arrived.
All you need is a bed small enough for your child now but with a bit of extra room that will allow them to grow. You don’t want to need a new bed again in a year’s time.
Take your child’s interests into account and go for a bed that works for them. There are lots of great options out there for kids now and it definitely doesn’t have to be a boring decision.
Go for something, safe, reliable and with a little bit of wiggle room and you should be good to go for a while longer.
Safe floor space for playing
While the nursery is used mostly for sleeping, nursing, and changing, the child’s room will need to have a little more versatility in its space.
Children play and they have toys, and it’s great for them to have a safe and cosy space to do this in their own room.
Toy mats and playing mats are a great place to start with this and they will allow your child to play in their room without having to sit on a hard floor.
Toy boxes and toy organisers can be something great to think about at this step too as you don’t want the room to get too messy or overwhelming.
A small, tidy place to play is perfect for the transition from newborn to small child. Remember to safety proof the edges of furniture around the play area so that we don’t have any bumped heads on the cards.
Input from your toddler/child
One of the best ways to make this upgrading process easier is to ask your child what they would like and/or take their interests into account.
This is the time in your child’s life when they will start to have likes and dislikes and it is great for them to have a space that reflects this.
If they like animals, include some animal decor. If they like trucks and cars, get some for them to play with in their room. If they like princesses, consider getting them a princess bed.
It doesn’t matter what it is, it just matters that your child feels that they have a space that is special for them.
You would be surprised at how much this means to them down the line.
